I use to work for Wells Fargo bank as an econometrics analyst. this was way back in the early 1980’s. One day this overweight 6 foot something guy drops into my office all gitty about something and shows me a picture of a girl dressed up in a prom dress sort of outfit. I simply said: “very pretty girl” and he turned aroudn and left. an hour later I was in an office with my boss, another boss, and HR. They were grilling me about why I was so rude to the gitty guy. As I am sitting there wondering what the hell I did wrong a corporate lawyer walks in and says this discussion is over unless I wished to sue the bosses over this issue.
Turns out they had already gone to the corporate lawyer for advice before they called my it. It also turns out the picture was actually of gitty dude. It further turns out that every year there is a competition in san francisco where all the flaming gay dudes dress up like women and have a beauty contest. Th one that wins has dates for the rest of the year. Gitty dude won.
That was almost 45 years ago. Even then non-gay people were being discriminated against in california.
